How moist should my worm farm be?

Worms require a moist environment; as wet a as a wrung-out sponge! Generally, you should not need to add water to your worm farm as food scraps have a high water content, which helps to keep the bin moist. But, if the bin has dried out, sprinkle a little water on the top of the bin. If you have added dry matter like shredded paper you may also need to add water.

To assess the moisture of the farm, you can use the “Squeeze Test”. This is an easy, efficient way to check the moisture levels in your farm:

1. Take a handful of bedding in your hand and squeeze it tightly.

2. At correct moisture levels, only a few drops of moisture should come out.
